The Iowa Raptors FC have begun their offseason preparations, beginning with the announcements of an updated front office staff. When the 2020 outdoor season ended in relations to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Iowa Raptors went to work setting the stage for the future of the organization.
As the organization prepares for the upcoming 2021 outdoor season, Gordy Gurson will assume the role of General Manager. Alexis Smith as Assistant General Manager. And finally, Rainer Hauss secured the position as Head of Sales.
Coming from a background deep with soccer roots, Gordy Gurson isn’t a stranger to the town of Cedar Rapids. Gurson made the move to Cedar Rapids when he was acquired by the Cedar Rapids Rampage during the 2015-16 season. Regardless of joining the team later in the 2015 season, Gordy acquired the captain’s band, quickly making a name for himself within the community. Once the 2017-18 season rolled around, he lead the team to its first ever playoff appearance. Throughout his time in Cedar Rapids, Gurson obtained the honor of being on the third team all league and honorable mention as a Rampage player. These accomplishments have lead him to currently sitting in the Top 5 all time goal scorers in the MASL!
Gurson said, “I am extremely excited to be selected as the Iowa Raptors General Manager. Being in Cedar Rapids for so many years before, it holds a close place to my heart and I cannot wait to bring exciting soccer back to the community!” He went on to say, “Thank you to the Iowa Raptors for selecting me, there is so much talent in the Cedar Rapids area that goes unrecognized and we are looking forward to putting it on display.”
Growing up in the Cedar Rapids area, Alexis Smith stated that she is beyond excited to see the market of soccer grow within her hometown. Coming with experience from the Cedar Rapids Rampage, Cedar Rapids Rampage United, Orlando Seawolves and with this past 2020 outdoor Iowa Raptors season, she is looking forward to stepping into her new role as Assistant General Manager. “I’m delighted to expand my role within this organization and am excited to bring the sport of soccer back to my community!”
Hauss, coming with experience as he first came to this community with the opportunity to be a part of the Cedar Rapids Rampage, said, “I’m excited to be named to such an important position with the Iowa Raptors. After living in Cedar Rapids for over five years, I believe that the organization can succeed in this very loyal market, where the personal relationships, character integrity, and honesty are key to create deeper roots with its business and population.”
