In their third meeting of the young season, your Iowa Raptors dominated the visiting St. Louis Ambush 2 by a score of 9-1.

After dropping the first game to the Ambush, your Raptors came roaring back, dropping the Ambush 7-3 on Saturday, Dec. 23, and allowing just one goal in a statement-making win last night at the PowerHouse. No less than seven Raptors netted goals on the evening. Nico Williams led all scorers with two, while Bobby Hurwitz, Jake Johnson, Isaiah Thomas, Angelo Oquendo, David Lapan-Islas, and Sam Sanchez contributed one each.

"I really wanted that hat trick," Williams said, and he came close, with the potential third goal going just wide in the game's waning minutes. "Maybe next time!"

Oquendo has been on fire, and continued his strong play last night. Having put up four total points on the Ambush during the previous meeting -- a hat trick and an assist -- Oquendo reversed it in this tilt, notching a goal and three assists. Hurwitz also added an assist, as did newcomer Erik Perriera (who also blocked an otherwise certain goal late in the third).

In a night filled with offensive fireworks, goaltender Haakon Utesch stood out for your Raptors. He's surrendered only four goals in the last two games, and even chipped in an assist last night, a long toss to Sanchez in the waning minutes of the first half.

GK Haakon Utesch discusses his standout performance

With last night's win, your Raptors move to 2-2 on the season, good for second place in the M2 North Division. Utesch enters the leaderboards at #5 in goals-against average (GAA), and Oquendo is #5 in points per game. Your Raptors now have three weeks to prepare for the Des Moines Demon Hawks, who will be visiting the PowerHouse on January 20, 2024.
