Tonight, your Lady Raptors open their home season in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) at 7pm vs. the Quad Cities Rush.
The match will be especially exciting following the WPSL's recent announcement that they are the one and only women's amateur league to be granted Tier 1 status from the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). According to the league's press release, "Tier 1 is considered to be superior in performance, professionalism, minimum standards, financial stability, and sustainability. This is the first designation of its kind within USASA that includes financial expectations as a criterion. Further criteria include a national footprint and multiple years of status of being a national league."
The WPSL is also celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. "This is the highest level of women's amateur soccer, and we're proud to be representing the great city of Cedar Rapids," said club secretary Bobby Hurwitz.
All Raptors home games will be played at John Wall Field at Prairie High School. Kickoff tonight is set for 7pm, and should be exciting.
